Day Two and Three: Behind The Scenes LA

We woke up to the eternal youth of the one and only Michael Des Barres knocking on our door looking for a cup of coffee. Sitting down and talking with this man whose stories are animated, exuberant and filled with a confidence that time has brought him to the very place he was meant to be. Challenging us to see with our hearts and not with any preconceived notions of whom others might be.

I’m on a journey and I do not judge or condemn. I’ve been sober for 30 plus years but I can’t tell someone else not to do something, I can only live by the example that anything is possible.

If these walls could talk…

On a sleepy Los Angeles afternoon we entered the home of rock groupie Miss Pamela Des Barres. Apparent that there was no vacancy left to be a fly on the wall dressed in yellow and teal hangings of self-portraits, Elvis, Walt Whitman, Jesus, The GTO’s, and a photograph with Dylan. So much life yet a solace melancholy filled the room, maybe to realize that life with a musician is more of a dream.

The way I see it, we were their muses and they needed us.

Blue and Wes

In Studio City we went back to the time when rock & roll lit up the Sunset Strip with an energy that was as flamboyant and crude as there ever might be. We sat down with Blue Dixon who is not afraid to tell it like it is and reflects on the fact that as women we need to have each other’s back because it can be a cruel, dark world otherwise. Stories of life on the road and how she became an unwelcome member on the tour bus by speaking her mind.

This bus don’t roll until we drop the hoe off at the Texaco.

Suzette and Wes

Next stop Marina Del Rey and the charms of Dee & Suzette Snider who show us that perseverance, will and determination are the key to longevity.

No man was ever going to stand in my way. I love Dee but I don’t need him.

Each artistic encounter brings another perspective to the equation as we seek to answer the question ‘does or can’ real love exist in this industry. What is love to each person and is the end result fuelled by chance or choice.

Day One LA: Behind The Scenes

Processed with VSCOcam with m3 preset

I sit here currently residing in the quaint hills of Echo Park at our Spanish Style Air Bnb on Valentine and the steepest hill we have EVER encountered off Baxter Street. Summer is still in full force as the muggy humidity hugs our bones and flowery smell of California clears the soul.

A lovely respite for our crew after an energetic day of filming. Yesterday, we met the muse behind our vocal inspiration Ben Rothbard [The Palms] his other half, Lyndee.

We aimed to capture the balance between life at home and life at night hence their gig at The Sayers club; a new favorite in the ranks for an intimate, sexy, LA vibe capped of with a stunner of live music by The Palms.

Check one-two: We film with three Artists today, Michael Des Barres, Pamela Des Barres, and Blue Dixon. Stay tuned!

LA and Nashville: Here we come

LA

Schedule purgatory doomed the mind over the last summer months. Pulling teeth and wrangling at the zoo can feel like an understatement, but as the pieces fit we are locked and loaded to film with The Palms, Dee and Suzette Snider, Blue Dixon, Escondido, Michael and Pamela Des Barres to name a few. Stay tuned as we journal the journey and continue to bring you behind the scenes, in the making of: ‘Love Yourself More.’

An uplifting film about women, love & music in a refreshing way that has not been done before. We are not looking for dirt or ‘dialogue that sells’ but instead passionately pursuing the essence of real love, that sometimes elusive bond that we all search for. Discovering the substance of these women and all that they bring to the lives of their partners and ultimately seeking to answer the question ‘does’ or ‘can’ real love exist in this industry.

Documentary Production: Behind The Scenes

Behind The Scenes with Mama Kin, John Butler Trio, & Shakey Graves

In a sense this folk festival ambiance was our first ‘round at the rodeo as we pulled into Calgary. Excitement, inspiration, and lack of sleep was on our side from the one hour nap due to rocking out at Shakey Graves the night previous.

Day two was one for the books and it started with the breakfast of champions under a golden arch. Crew for the Day was highly recommended Cinematographer and Sound Technican [Life Capture’s] Adam Peariso and product of a desperate google search which ultimately was meant to be brought us Photographer Allison Seto.

The itinerary was to film an interview with John Butler of The John Butler Trio, partner to our muse Mama Kin followed by the band’s headline performance at The Calgary Folk Festival.
