Cariboo Express – Making Music Count Across Western Canada

Who couldn’t find something to live for with Barney Bentall & the Legendary Hearts.

Music – such a powerful expression from above, and there is nothing more fulfilling than to watch it grow and infiltrate into the hearts and lives of those who need it most.

So nice to catch up with Barney this week to chat about Cariboo Express –  a talented ensemble that has been touring each November for more than a decade to make a difference with their gift of music.

This is a one-of-a-kind variety show cast with renowned Canadian musicians, led by Canadian superstar Barney Bentall, along with Ridley Bent, Dustin Bentall, Kendel Carson, Matt Masters, Wendy Bird, various special guests and a backing band comprised of some of Canada’s finest musicians. Each of the core members have music careers of their own, but every November the group convenes to raise funds for various worthy charities in the spirit of song, community and giving back to society.

Cariboo Express has raised $850,000 to date, which is true testament to their vision of lending a hand where it may be needed most – and they are so very far from finished.

Fresh Independence is excited to take part in their Vancouver show Saturday November 26th at the Vogue Theatre on Granville Street.

Hope to see you there!

Brett Dennen: On Tour Now

Fresh Independence caught up with Brett Dennen after a day of skiing in Aspen, Colorado. Currently on Tour: You don’t want to miss this diamond in the rough.

Where did Tour kick off?

We kicked off tour in Phoenix, AZ and stop in Honolulu, HI. I wish I could tour Hawaii all the time. I don’t, but I need to.

You were in Vancouver last February right?

I was , I love Vancouver, I was there last summer as well.

The number one thing people say to me when they meet me is, “I didn’t realize you were so tall!” I heard that at least 50 times a day last month on tour. Here I am backstage last night in Madrid, warming up before the show. In Holland, I fit in just fine.

What is your favorite thing about Vancouver?

I just love the scenery, the air, the red wood trees, the breeze, it has that water-ocean-air energy to it that is invigorating and it is just so blue and green. Those are the colors of life- very inspiring.

Editing, heaven?

We should think of this as editing heaven because we are fortunate to be blessed with an abundance of footage, but too much of something is not always a good thing.

The past few weeks have pulled, prevailed, and passionately proven the restless need to breathe life into this chapter. The words of fellow Filmmaker Mark Freiburger will forever resonate within the beauty of this creative process:

“If you want to make a film, you literally have to will it into existence. There is no other way.”

So as you read this: The team is implementing the final touches of our official Trailer Pitch to secure further cast and pave a road for funding to begin Production.

In the meantime Director Kim Laureen is preparing to film our second Annual Christmas sessions in support of the not-for- profit start-up, ‘For An Angel’ at a quaint old Farm House in the countryside and her co founder Meg branches out to Paris to discover inspiration and study the art of Photography.

Stay tuned as we get back on the band wagon blog to further bring you meaningful stories of the faces behind the lens.

Yours in music,

Fresh Independence
