Mick Evans – The Other Half Of The Joker

“Songwriting has really blossomed for me. You know I think you know when you know, when you’ve found what you really love doing. I rarely get bored of doing it – do struggle to find time for it – but it’s a real joy.”

It seems the key to life may be found inside taking time to ‘sit quietly with me’ and let the inner stirrings of your heart wash over.
Writing is, as true a gift, as looking up at the breath taking colours of a perfect summer sky, the touch of your forever love imprinting on your soul or the emotions that pass inside while witnessing the power of the human spirit. For whom might ever help us to vocalize these precious moments but the unspoken voice of a writer.

I met Mick Evans on a warm summer day when the stars crossed over a big wide sky from Canada to England.
His is a story of finding what you love and letting it be your guide to the very place you are meant to be.
A successful business man by day and a writer who is connecting his thoughts through collaboration of melody and a lot of hard work.

So proud of this British gent who is an award winning lyric writer with a heart of gold, who can make you laugh out loud when you least expect it.
It is no wonder that Nashville songwriting coach Mark Cawley saw something special in Mick and it was a brilliant move to team him up with German native Lawrence Grey.

Their debut EP – The Joker releases this week and I know there is lots more coming for this dynamic duo.

Have a peek through Mick’s lyric page and listen to some of his demos and recorded music.

Lawrence Grey – The Joker

Born and raised a classical pianist Lawrence Grey is finding his niche amongst our finest crooners with his debut offering. A multi talented musician who’s unbridled enthusiasm for life is written all over everything he touches. His handsome looks and debonair style will have him collecting hearts one beat at a time with his new EP – The Joker.

It has been an amazing collaboration with British lyricist Mick Evans and together they are only getting started.

“With my first language being German, I needed someone to help me better express lyrics in english. I’ve practiced for a long time but it is still hard for me to write songs in english. On ‘The Joker’ I colour Mick’s words with music. It’s all I need to do.”

LAWRENCE GREY

“I had coached Mick Evans, a very talented UK based lyricist for a couple of years and had always been looking to connect him to a kindred spirit. When I first heard what Lawrence was writing I had a feeling it could be one of those amazing partnerships – sort of as if Bernie Taupin had met Chet Baker. And here it is, one unique mix of what they both do best.”  Mark Cawley Nashville Tennessee

Eva Cassidy – Up Above

If you are one to believe that gifts come from above then you might think of the late Eva Cassidy. Whenever I hear her, she makes my heart stop in reflection of all that is meant to be.
She was painfully shy, not at all glamorous and much to the frustration of record company executives, impossible to pigeon hole. Pop tunes, blues, jazz, gospel – she sang whatever moved her. In an era of brightly packaged stars, think Britney Spears – Eva Cassidy was the polar opposite. Indeed she never knew fame, that is coming only now years after she died in the prime of her life, and her version of ‘Over the Rainbow’ see if it doesn’t give you goose bumps.
Nightline corespondent and jazz and blues enthusiast Dave Marash said that putting together the Eva Cassidy story was definitely a ‘labour of love.’

A beautiful story.

The Palms – A Band You Will Fall For Over and Over Again

It was a windy spring break 2014 at Venice Beach, when we first met up with Ben Rothbard and Johnny Zambetti – key players in the then band Terraplane Sun.
Nothing not to love about this ensemble of good souls and a sound that would make any lover of music cry for more.

Then it seems that life has a way of coming along and shuffling us all into the spots we are meant to shine – hence The Palms.

THE PALMS

The Palms

When the chemistry is right anything is possible. Ben Rothbard has a voice you don’t come by often but once heard, stays with you wherever you go. Johnny lights up the room on guitar and nobody can replace the vibe and vision uniquely his own that makes this collaboration click.

‘I really believe in our body of work and I am behind it 100% – all the way.’

Ben Rothbard

The Palms bring a pineapple express kind of breeze – lending inspiration , freedom and escape to the average heart. Their honest lyrics about standing up for yourself and staying true – delivered with their downtown vibe – makes the essential pains of growing a lot more fun.

A new project – new vibes and lots of new music for all to enjoy. So much ahead for these guys and you don’t want to miss a thing.

I had the chance to catch up with them this week in Los Angeles on their way to the studio to see how they are feeling about where they are at right now.

Be sure to experience The Palms the month of February during their residency at The Satellite – the best place in Los Angeles for live music.
