Cariboo Express – Making Music Count Across Western Canada

Who couldn’t find something to live for with Barney Bentall & the Legendary Hearts.

Music – such a powerful expression from above, and there is nothing more fulfilling than to watch it grow and infiltrate into the hearts and lives of those who need it most.

So nice to catch up with Barney this week to chat about Cariboo Express –  a talented ensemble that has been touring each November for more than a decade to make a difference with their gift of music.

This is a one-of-a-kind variety show cast with renowned Canadian musicians, led by Canadian superstar Barney Bentall, along with Ridley Bent, Dustin Bentall, Kendel Carson, Matt Masters, Wendy Bird, various special guests and a backing band comprised of some of Canada’s finest musicians. Each of the core members have music careers of their own, but every November the group convenes to raise funds for various worthy charities in the spirit of song, community and giving back to society.

Cariboo Express has raised $850,000 to date, which is true testament to their vision of lending a hand where it may be needed most – and they are so very far from finished.

Fresh Independence is excited to take part in their Vancouver show Saturday November 26th at the Vogue Theatre on Granville Street.

Hope to see you there!

Brett Dennen: On Tour Now

Fresh Independence caught up with Brett Dennen after a day of skiing in Aspen, Colorado. Currently on Tour: You don’t want to miss this diamond in the rough.

Where did Tour kick off?

We kicked off tour in Phoenix, AZ and stop in Honolulu, HI. I wish I could tour Hawaii all the time. I don’t, but I need to.

You were in Vancouver last February right?

I was , I love Vancouver, I was there last summer as well.

Brett Dennen 3

The number one thing people say to me when they meet me is, “I didn’t realize you were so tall!” I heard that at least 50 times a day last month on tour. Here I am backstage last night in Madrid, warming up before the show. In Holland, I fit in just fine.

What is your favorite thing about Vancouver?

I just love the scenery, the air, the red wood trees, the breeze, it has that water-ocean-air energy to it that is invigorating and it is just so blue and green. Those are the colors of life- very inspiring.

Francesca Tamellini – London

Name: Francesca
Age: 22
Where are you writing this: London

Each soul is hand picked – to potentially inspire others to move in ways that imprint on the hearts of those around them. It’s all the little things inside of a song that speak to you and sweet Francesca Tamellini has a gift to share with the world.

FRANCESCA TAMELLINI

Home is where your story begins, please tell us a little about yours…

My childhood was split between Italy and Scotland, so in my case I very much have two places I call home. The first is a lazy village, scattered with vineyards and olive trees in northern Italy where most of my family still live, and the other, the one where I spent most of my later childhood, is a beautiful Scottish town surrounded by icy beaches, famous for golf and K.T. Tunstall.

How did music find you…

From a young age I was pushed into music. I use the word pushed because it was indeed my family who encouraged me to pursue a musical education as they knew it was important for me to develop a skill, and having seen how dreadful I was at team sports or other forms of hobbies, they decided the music would be the least painful route for me to take. I used to curse my mother for making me practice, but now, as I’m sure is the same with many people, I thank her from the bottom of my heart.

What is the song writing process like for you…

I either write a song in a day or I don’t write one at all. I can’t plan them and I can’t think about it too much. All my songs have been born in a matter of hours, on uneventful days, where I just lose myself at my piano.
