Eva Cassidy – Up Above

If you are one to believe that gifts come from above then you might think of the late Eva Cassidy. Whenever I hear her, she makes my heart stop in reflection of all that is meant to be.
She was painfully shy, not at all glamorous and much to the frustration of record company executives, impossible to pigeon hole. Pop tunes, blues, jazz, gospel – she sang whatever moved her. In an era of brightly packaged stars, think Britney Spears – Eva Cassidy was the polar opposite. Indeed she never knew fame, that is coming only now years after she died in the prime of her life, and her version of ‘Over the Rainbow’ see if it doesn’t give you goose bumps.
Nightline corespondent and jazz and blues enthusiast Dave Marash said that putting together the Eva Cassidy story was definitely a ‘labour of love.’

A beautiful story.

The Palms – A Band You Will Fall For Over and Over Again

It was a windy spring break 2014 at Venice Beach, when we first met up with Ben Rothbard and Johnny Zambetti – key players in the then band Terraplane Sun.
Nothing not to love about this ensemble of good souls and a sound that would make any lover of music cry for more.

Then it seems that life has a way of coming along and shuffling us all into the spots we are meant to shine – hence The Palms.

THE PALMS

The Palms

When the chemistry is right anything is possible. Ben Rothbard has a voice you don’t come by often but once heard, stays with you wherever you go. Johnny lights up the room on guitar and nobody can replace the vibe and vision uniquely his own that makes this collaboration click.

‘I really believe in our body of work and I am behind it 100% – all the way.’

Ben Rothbard

The Palms bring a pineapple express kind of breeze – lending inspiration , freedom and escape to the average heart. Their honest lyrics about standing up for yourself and staying true – delivered with their downtown vibe – makes the essential pains of growing a lot more fun.

A new project – new vibes and lots of new music for all to enjoy. So much ahead for these guys and you don’t want to miss a thing.

I had the chance to catch up with them this week in Los Angeles on their way to the studio to see how they are feeling about where they are at right now.

Be sure to experience The Palms the month of February during their residency at The Satellite – the best place in Los Angeles for live music.

JP Maurice – Vancouver

JP MAURICE

“Big change is coming”
That is JP Maurice’s anthemic promise to anyone who has seen their share of adversity. This seasoned Vancouver based musician, songwriter and producer knows the highs of his craft, but it’s in the lows where he finds his fire – taking the fuel of failed record deals, broken hearts, and the loss of loved ones and forging the pain into something beautifully optimistic.

Was fun to catch up with JP to talk about his new EP ‘Girls’ – the video release of the first single from the album ‘Shapeshifter’ and hearing how much he has grown in the very best of ways.
Having worked with him before we will always hold appreciation for the voice he was blessed with and the caring heart that he lends to others by being the first one there when called upon saying – what can I do.
Enthusiastically optimistic about all the good things to come from his creative space at ‘Bluelight Studios’ in Vancouver B.C.

Be sure to come down to the Biltmore Cabaret Saturday night for his EP release party.
