Ahm, being a small town girl, it was not until as of late I have been discovering the East side of Vancouver.
Last night brought me to the cusp of Chinatown, a dive bar, ‘The Cobalt’
I remember attending Canucks Hockey Games as a child and as we left town my wide eyes of wonder would stare at The Cobalt as if it was the scariest place in town.
Give it a decade and my black ankle boots were one with the pavement, a flick of the wrist, STAMP, I was in.
The venue has an intimate Greenwich Village ambience sure to keep em’ coming back for more.
Nostalgia, innocence, and venue analyzation aside, my friends told me about local band, ‘The Simpson Brothers,’ twins celebrating their album release and birthday.
Vancouver is at a bit of a lull in the music department, but it was with The Simpson Brother’s a soulful pop was rediscovered. There is nothing like a fully loaded band, yes that is music, but old melded with new and filled a missing piece.
Just as St. Paul and The Broken Bones, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, and Paolo Nutini bring the funk, The Simpson Brothers are a contender; delivering a solid gig to a revived scene.Back to Blog
